Scoil Bhríde Straffan Food Drive a Huge Success
Scoil Bhríde Primary School in Straffan has once again demonstrated the true meaning of community spirit and kindness with an outstanding food drive in support of Main Street Food Bank in Naas. Running from the 8th to the 12th of December, the initiative spearheaded by parent Susan Maher, proved to be an overwhelming success, resulting in one of the largest donations the food bank has received to date.
Throughout the week, the school community came together with a shared purpose: to help those in need during the busy and often challenging winter period. Pupils, parents, teachers, and staff all played their part, donating generously and encouraging one another to think about the importance of helping others. Boxes of food quickly filled the school hall, reflecting not only generosity but also the strong values instilled in the children of Scoil Bhríde.
The food drive received special recognition with visits from Minister James Lawless TD and Senator Aubrey McCarthy, both of whom attended to show their support for the efforts of the school. Their presence highlighted the importance of community-led initiatives and acknowledged the remarkable contribution made by the children and families of Scoil Bhríde. Both visitors praised the pupils for their compassion and enthusiasm, noting how inspiring it was to see young people so actively engaged in helping their wider community.
The culmination of the week came as a van was loaded with all the donations made of essential food items that will go directly to families and individuals in need across Naas and the surrounding areas. Pupils gathered to watch proudly and to fill the van, and it was waved off with smiles, cheers, and a real sense of achievement. For the children, it was a powerful and tangible reminder that small acts of kindness, when combined, can make a very big difference.

As part of our Bí Cinéalta initiatives, we focused this month on empathy – the heart of Christmas – with the children. We felt that by promoting a Christmas Food Drive, we would encourage our pupils the importance of giving to those in genuine need especially at this time of year.”
