Senior G.A.A. 


Both our girls and boys senior teams were competing in Cumann na mBunscoil gaelic football since Easter. Both teams played three tight matches which ended today. The girls were very unfortunate to lose by 2 points in their last match against Scoil Choca Naofa while the boys lost by 2 after extra time. This double header will surely be core memories for the 6th class pupils involved. It is so great to see them giving their all in the Straffan NS jersey and we strongly encourage them to continue representing their future schools as well. Such great talent amongst the group.

Well done to the boys and girls who competed in the Cumann na mBunscol Cross Country races today in Ráthcoffey GAA ​All involved showed great fitness and determination, navigating a long course against strong competition. Representing the school at this level requires significant effort, and every runner should be proud of finishing their race. ​ Thanks to all involved in organising an event of this size.  ​

What is it? Today Mrs. Farrelly brought a very different item into school today. It was brought into each class where after looking closely at the item they made 2 guesses as to what it was.  What do you think it is?  Here are some of the guesses made by the children in the school:  bumblebee hive cardboard uncooked brownie tree bark birds' nest wasps' nest/hive ant nest shell asian hornets' nest crushed shells It is a... If you look closely at the next picture you will see the honeycomb pattern on the inside of the hive. This helped us and we found out it is a wasps nest/hive. Mrs. Farrelly let us know that once the wasps left the nest, they removed it from the roof of her garage.   Here is what we found out about wasps nests: A honeycomb pattern is visible inside many wasp nests, with hexagonal cells for wasp larvae.
