We were delighted to come together for our first school assembly of the year in September. It was  hosted wonderfully by our 6th class students and  was a special occasion as all children and staff gathered to celebrate the start of a new school year and reflect on the values that make our school community so strong. The 6th class did a fantastic job leading the assemblies with confidence and enthusiasm — setting a great example for everyone. What is it? Today Mrs. Farrelly brought a very different item into school today. It was brought into each class where after looking closely at the item they made 2 guesses as to what it was.  What do you think it is?  Here are some of the guesses made by the children in the school:  bumblebee hive cardboard uncooked brownie tree bark birds' nest wasps' nest/hive ant nest shell asian hornets' nest crushed shells It is a... If you look closely at the next picture you will see the honeycomb pattern on the inside of the hive. This helped us and we found out it is a wasps nest/hive. Mrs. Farrelly let us know that once the wasps left the nest, they removed it from the roof of her garage.   Here is what we found out about wasps nests: A honeycomb pattern is visible inside many wasp nests, with hexagonal cells for wasp larvae.
